I felt happy and excited for the first time in a long while as I drove to the hotel. It was amazing to be able to use the leisure facilities and not have to rush back, and to be able to sleep for the whole night. I really enjoyed being able to sit and enjoy breakfast (I don't usually get time for breakfast or lunch). Thank you very much for the opportunity.

This break was definitely needed. It was a bit of time where I could just sit and breathe for a bit and had time not to worry about anything much. I can’t thank you or the hotel enough for the opportunity. The hotel is lovely, the food is great and the staff are friendly. I would definitely go and stay at the hotel normally when it’s not a Carefree break. I would 100% recommend the hotel to friends and family too. Thanks again!

This was my second Carefree break to the Village Hotel Bury. I have family living in the area, so it was a good mix of seeing them and having a break for some much needed time to myself. The hotel is lovely and to be greeted on first name terms by Maxine Leon when checking in, made my stay even more special, a massive thank you to her for making my stay amazing. Having this break to look forward to means everything to me, life has been difficult with my caring this last year and this time alone gave me time to reflect, recharge and relax. Thank you so much.

I needed to do what I wanted to instead of always meeting the needs of others. The hotel was lovely, and the staff were really nice. The leisure facilities were great, and a chance to swim. The views were nice, and in all it was very restful and nice.

We had a wonderfully relaxing break with Carefree, and the opportunity to spend quality time together has made a huge difference to our relationship and to our children. The break was such a special gift, giving us the chance to step away from the daily stresses of being carers and simply enjoy being together. Thank you so very much for making this possible. We are incredibly grateful for your kindness and generosity.

The break has enabled me to reconnect with my husband 1:1, sleep through the night and have a lie-in. Our life is difficult as carers, and it was so nice to have a break from our caring life, enjoy each other's company and have an uninterrupted meal.

We had the most amazing and relaxing break away. Thank you so much, as without this absolutely amazing service I/we wouldn't have been able to afford to go away anywhere, and it's made a huge difference to my life. I'm much more relaxed, along with my friend who's also a carer. It was so nice to be able to enjoy time in a swimming pool and hot tub alone without my children who I care for. Thank you again.

I was able to spend the whole day on the beach relaxing, sleeping, hearing the waves and feeling the sunshine. I went to sleep at the hotel from 7:30 pm and had a restful night- the first time in a long time of uninterrupted sleep. The hotel staff were lovely, the room was nice, and the breakfast buffet was such a bonus and had a good variety.

I was literally burnt out and needed a break. I just needed some sleep. I travelled from London to Village Hotel Basingstoke, where I enjoyed the pool, jacuzzi and sauna on the evening of arrival. I went to bed and slept soundly. After leaving the hotel, I went to the shopping mall opposite the station before travelling back to London. I’m looking forward to my next break.

The break was great thank you so much. Time away was needed for myself and husband to be together and relax a little without the constant responsibility our lovely daughter needs. Knitting and podcasts. Doesn't sound like much but this is an activity I very rarely get to actually do at home. Caring is full on, it never stops. Just being able to have some time to myself to do what I want is absolutely invaluable. As is the novelty of getting a hot drink and a meal without near constant interruptions.

Thank you so much for your services and keeping the charity running! I’ve had two breaks this year so far, and it definitely helps with my mental health and the strain on the relationship is reduced. The hotel staff were lovely, and took care of our needs and were very grateful for the free breakfast and parking included. I’d like to go further away next time but for two nights if I’m lucky to find something suitable. Keep up the good work, I also love the availability calender view which makes searching alot easier!

I needed this break to prioritize my young son with some much needed 1 on 1 time. The hotel was easy enough to get to on public transport, the staff were friendly and helpful. My son loved being able to use the pool and enjoyed being able to talk and have me fully present with him. The room was perfect for us, it was clean and I have recommended it to all of my friends and family and I would definitely stay there again. Thank you Village Hotel Bristol for giving me and my son the opportunity to spend some quality time together.

I stayed 2 nights at The Village Hotel in Wirral recently and it was the first Carefree Break I had been on. I was really looking forward to this break and it was exceptional. It really gave me a well needed break and I came back full of positive happiness and experiences to share with my Mum. It made her happy too. The Hotel Staff were very pleasant and couldn't do enough for me. As well as an excellent breakfast, I was able to use the swimming pool and sauna, something I hadn't felt relaxed enough to do for a long time. I am so grateful for this Carefree Break. We were made to feel very welcome at the Village Hotel Farnborough. We were invited to use their pool and gym but we were very happy just to be able to relax and catch up on sleep in our comfortable room. We enjoyed a roast dinner in the restaurant and there was a big choice of food at the buffet breakfast . It was nice to have time to ourselves whilst knowing our son was being well looked after by his respite carers . Please pass on our thanks to everyone at the Hotel and thank you Carefree.

Myself and my husband hardly ever get time away together as we care for three children who are autistic and have ADHD, and we also both work, so we are very tired and overwhelmed at times. This break enabled us to enjoy stress-free time together, with no demands, and to enjoy each other’s company and talk about us and our lives, which provided much-needed perspective. We thought we would have to add access to the leisure facilities onto our booking but, when we arrived, we discovered this was included, which was a lovely surprise and very much appreciated. Thank you, Village Hotel Cheadle.

It was important to me to get away from my caring responsibilities. My stay was at the Village Hotel Coventry. Although the hotel was clean, people were coming and going all the time to use the gym and pool and to watch the football. I was really looking forward to breakfast but was bitterly disappointed. The breakfast was very similar to a Beefeater. I won’t be booking another Village Hotel. I frequently find it difficult to find a two-night break. One night is not sufficient as you are only there from 3pm to the next morning. I’m very grateful, however, that I have always eventually been able to find a two-night break.

It’s about not having to constantly deal with conflicting battles trying to get them to do things or explaining things to the person I care for. I’m having therapy for burnout, and one of the things I need to do is prioritise my own relaxation. I also experience a lot of pressure from family members to care and do everything perfectly, while still doing non-essential favours for them, so being able to get away and not be available was amazing. It felt like a real luxury. It also, as horrible as it sounds, gave me a moment to miss my husband and home while being away. The hotel staff were lovely and the facilities were wonderful. The rooms and whole premises were very clean. I had such a wonderful night’s sleep and woke up feeling energised in a way I wouldn’t have at home.

I thank the hotel for being accommodating and for enabling a space for me to go and unwind. I appreciate the check-in process being minimal and swift (use of a tablet), as this ensured I did not have to use up too much of my social battery to organise things when this is something that is overwhelming in my daily life. That’s why this break is so important — these breaks enable people who have to meticulously plan and carry out structured days and think about someone else all the time. To not have to think about anything except what I wanted to choose for breakfast was bliss.

My husband and I went to Portsmouth Village Hotel for two nights. The staff were friendly and the service was very good. My husband especially appreciated the gym! I care for my two adult children and a neighbour. The load recently has been too great, and the break away confirmed the need to pass on the responsibility of caring for my neighbour so I have time to look after my family and myself. It also gave my husband and me time together just before he has an intense period of work. Being able to enjoy time at the Historic Dockyard and focus on something other than caring was really helpful. I did, however, have a phone call about a health issue involving one of my children whilst on a Victorian warship! I really appreciated the comprehensive package the hotel gave us, including parking and use of the gym. That makes you feel valued, not just occupying a room no one else wanted.

My Carefree breaks are a lifesaver for me. They provide much-needed respite which I could not ordinarily afford. It was so nice to have time to not think about queues or getting things done, and to have time to relax — even just doing nothing was lovely. Having these breaks means so much to me and my wellbeing. Caring day in, day out takes a lot out of you and leaves you feeling constantly tired, and affordability is another thing which prevents you from taking that break. But Carefree has been a godsend for people like us who need help, and I assure you these breaks really do help. I mean, it doesn’t take away the problems, but it gives us a chance to breathe and have time for ourselves without having to worry for that one or two days that are just for us. I would like to thank the Village Hotel for having us. It was smooth checking in with the lovely receptionist. I absolutely want to thank Sandra from the restaurant, who is the most loving, kind, and amazing lady, and so thoughtful. She was there to take care of our breakfast needs — she is an angel and works very hard to keep things running, and she does it brilliantly. Thank you also to Corey from security, who was lovely to chat to and such a kind man. All in all, I had a lovely weekend thanks to Carefree. I really appreciate it.

I went to the Village Bracknell with my partner. The hotel and facilities were much nicer than the website suggested. The staff were superb, polite, and very helpful. We used the exercise and spa facilities, which was wonderful. We had aspirations of going out and exploring the area more extensively, but after a good workout, steam, and chill time, thoughts of going out were abandoned. The room and bar eating area were also lovely. Thank you to them all. I’d definitely return and have encouraged friends and family to go there too. The mini break was just what I needed to exhale and relax for a bit.

It was great to have some "me time" and to relax properly. It gave me the chance to have an adventure and explore a new city. Thanks to the wonderful charity Carefree, my wife and I recently enjoyed a fantastic two-night break at the Village Hotel Manchester Ashton. Carefree is an incredible organisation that provides unpaid carers with much-needed short breaks, and we are extremely grateful for the opportunity. Due to health reasons, we had to postpone our stay for some time, but it was certainly worth the wait. We were treated to a two-night stay, including breakfast, and from start to finish, the experience was exceptional. The hotel itself was outstanding. Our room was beautifully presented, spacious, comfortable, and felt wonderfully luxurious. As both my wife and I are disabled, having the opportunity to relax in such a welcoming and comfortable environment meant a great deal to us. The staff were absolutely superb—friendly, professional, and always willing to help. They truly made us feel valued and welcome throughout our stay. The location could not have been better. Directly opposite the hotel is a fantastic leisure and retail complex, with plenty to do and see. During our stay, we enjoyed a lovely meal at Nando’s and watched a film at the cinema, which made our short break even more special. It was a truly memorable getaway - relaxing, enjoyable, and exactly what we needed. We cannot thank Carefree enough for making this possible. Their support for carers is invaluable, and we are already looking forward to booking another break in the future. Highly recommended.

I stayed in the Village Hotel in Bury with my 17-year-old daughter. She really enjoyed having me to herself, and we had fun using their pool and steam room etc. I had forgotten how much I love to swim with her, as we usually have her brother with us in a hydrotherapy pool. We went into Bury for Pizza Express, played some pool in The Rock, and in the morning she convinced me to let her get a new ear piercing! The break came at a time when I desperately needed it and was feeling run down, exhausted, and overwhelmed (I had to move in with my mum several years ago to look after her, so I’m on duty 24/7 at home). My partner and I have only been together a couple of years, so it was fantastic to have time away just for the two of us to spend some quality time together. I can’t express just how much this opportunity meant to us—it was absolutely wonderful. The hotel we stayed in was lovely, and the staff were very helpful and nice, which put us at ease and helped us to relax. It was an absolute lifeline at a time when I really needed it most, and we can’t thank you all enough. It is a wonderful thing that you do. Time to myself is so important. I suffer from poor mental health and find it difficult coping with my caring role, so I need frequent breaks. As I live with the person I care for, the only way I can get a proper break is by going away. I have no income other than Carer’s Allowance, so I cannot afford to get away as much as I need. I am extremely grateful to Carefree and Village Hotels for giving me the opportunity to switch off and relax for a couple of days. I loved having access to a pool as well—I find swimming boosts my mood, but I have difficulty making time for it when at home. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. It was great to get away from home for a couple of nights. Those hours away were so needed—I was near burnout trying to cope. The hotel staff, without exception, were amazing. Our room was spotless, spacious, and the beds were very comfortable.

My daughter and I had a lovely time at the hotel—some much-needed daddy-daughter time. We stayed at the Village Hotel Hyde and had a wonderful stay. The room was clean, comfortable, and lovely. The food was amazing, and the staff were very helpful and polite. I’d like to thank all the staff for making us feel so welcome, and a special thank you to Carefree for making this possible.

I took my son away with me (the younger brother of the person I care for). It's important for us to spend quality time together, away from my caring duties, to reconnect. This is the second year we've been on a Carefree break together, and we had a brilliant time. It was really special.

Having this break gave my husband and me some “us” time. It was fantastic to be able to relax and not have to break off a conversation to deal with our daughter for any reason. The hotel was excellent; we took full advantage of the leisure facilities, and the room and food were also very good. We would definitely recommend this hotel, not just for carers, but for anyone looking for a short break.

This break came at the right time. I had been feeling so low, overwhelmed and fed up. But I have now had time for me, reminded myself that I am also human. It’s given me and my husband time to just chat and have a meal out, which we never get to do. I now feel like we have become closer. I now feel revitalised and refreshed, and that I can cope with my caring responsibilities. I am stronger now, and I can’t thank Carefree enough. I really needed this break, and it has helped me soooo much.

I have had a challenging time since last summer. Life has become harder as my daughter has left home, and I am coping on my own. My husband has multiple Sclerosis and is getting worse every day. A night off, no washing up or cooking - lovely. The hotel was beautiful. Very kind staff. Great food.

It enabled me to have some important ’me’ time without having to worry about my husband, as I knew he was being well cared for. I was able to relax and sleep if I wanted, read a book, do my knitting, have a swim, and explore the area around the town. The hotel, staff and food were all very good. Thank you. I will certainly be looking to book another Carefree break later in the year.

We had a truly relaxing and enjoyable break. Everything was very well organised, and we felt very comfortable throughout our stay. The hotel was excellent, the staff were very warm and helpful, and we really appreciated the opportunity to take some time to rest. We also enjoyed exploring Southampton, especially the marina and the historic Titanic sites, which made the experience even more special. We are very grateful to Carefree for making this possible. It really meant a lot to us. Thank you again 💛

This break was so desperately needed. I was feeling at the end of my tether, and I was struggling with life and caring for my son. We had a 2-night stay away and rested. We had such a chilled night the first night, and then the second day, we had some drinks and let our hair down. It was sooo needed. I feel ready to go again and more able to handle everything that life throws at me. It was really nice to reconnect with my husband and to improve our relationship. Thank you so much, Carefree❤️

I think this is the 3rd time we’ve used Carefree, and we cannot thank them enough for getting a 1 night break away. It may have only been less than 24 hours away, but it felt much longer and definitely much-needed time away, which we wouldn’t get. The parking, room and breakfast all taken care of is absolutely phenomenal. Our stay was amazing, and very easy checking in on a screen. Staff were very friendly, and more importantly, we had a great night's sleep. The second time we’ve stayed at this hotel and will definitely stay there again next time. Thank you so much, Carefree and thank you to Village Aberdeen for having us.

Without this break, I literally have no means to take a break, not only financially but also practically. It seems that family takes it more seriously that my break is required because it seems more official. My past break was last year, and a Carefree break too. I stayed alone and had no money to spend on food, but luckily, there was breakfast included and bar staff available to refill my water bottle. I was able to relax, use the pool and do simple things like watch TV or read a book. This availability of a break from caring is a lifesaver. Now, I just continue caring until I am lucky enough for another break.

With 3 children, the youngest with complex needs, it is nearly impossible to leave them, and I would never put myself first to spend money on a hotel break. The children always come first, and that would just feel like spending money I should be spending on them. The hotel offered absolutely everything I could have wanted - a comfy room, a gym to really indulge in exercise (I was able to book 2 classes during my stay), and breakfast in the morning. It gave me time to reset and think about myself for 24 hours.

I really appreciated having time away for myself. Not feeling in demand and not having to worry was just amazing. When you are a carer, you don't realise how much you feel under pressure until that pressure is lifted, which is exactly what this break provided me with. No pressure, just me time. Thank you so much. The hotel staff were amazing. So kind and considerate. A great hotel to stay at and would love to return.

It was important for me to get away from my caring role for a couple of days, it gave me a chance to recharge and relax. The hotel and staff were fantastic, very friendly and helpful. It gave me a chance to reconnect with one of my adult children and spend some quality time with them as they came along with me, as I have disabilities myself. I wouldn't have got to do this without the help of Carefree and the hotel, so I would like to say a big, massive thank you to both.

It was lovely to be away from home. As a sole unpaid carer, I haven't had a holiday for seven years. Even two nights made a difference and was a change of scene. I didn't do much, I just took the chance to relax and not be called on or interrupted for a few precious hours. Many thanks to the hotel for offering its spare rooms and making a big difference to exhausted carers who rarely get any recognition, appreciation or support.

Please thank the staff at the Village in South Leeds. Everybody we met was lovely, chatty and helpful. This is the second Carefree break we have been on, and you must believe me that they make a heck of a difference to us. I care for my 29-year-old son, who has ASD, LD and epilepsy and my 81-year-old mum, who has dementia. My life hasn’t been my own for a long time, so when we get a break, even if it’s just for one night, just driving away to spend the night somewhere else is a total release of pressure. We arrive and usually just enjoy being on our own. The breakfast on Saturday morning was tasty and varied. My husband favours a cooked breakfast, whereas I’m a yoghurt, fruit and toast kind of person. Thanks again for a lovely break, we caught the Park and Ride and had a great day in Leeds.

A friend introduced me to Carefree a few years ago. Over the past couple of years, I’ve been able to take 1-2 breaks per year. I can’t express how grateful I have been for this respite. Caring responsibilities are hard, but it’s hard to accept that as a parent of a disabled young person, they will always require care and will never grow up to be independent. As a parent who’s getting older, and it's not getting any easier, I appreciate these breaks so much. My husband can care for our autistic son in my absence, and I love going to hotels where there is a pool and spa to concentrate on my health and wellness. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart.

I desperately needed this break as I had to support my cared-for person as a result of emergency hospitalisation and didn't have any Christmas or New Year's holiday. Upon discharge, they were sent to my home, which made it even more challenging to catch my breath. So going on this 2-day break gave me the respite I needed, so I am thankful for it. The hotel was very relaxing, and I feel refreshed to continue with my caring role. I appreciate Carefree for this support and the Carer's hub too.

Life is very full on with our son, who has complex sensory, social and emotional needs. It's exhausting and takes its toll leaving little room for rest and time for myself. Having this break meant I had uninterrupted sleep, I could feel like an adult, do things I wanted and let my nervous system settle. The hotel was great because there was a real buzz on the ground floor and it was a nice place to hang out, but the room was quiet and restful. The staff were lovely. I felt so rested and ready to head back into the chaos!!!

This break was really important to me as it gave me the chance to switch off and properly rest. Life can be quite busy, so having time away made a real difference and allowed me to recharge. There was a bit of noise during the stay, which I believe was due to some works being carried out, but aside from that everything was really good. Overall, it was a positive experience and I appreciated the stay. Thank you x

So much of my life is spent feeling invisible - as though I'm living on mute, watching the rest of the world go by from a distance. I love my family deeply, and it's hard to describe daily life in such raw terms, but this is my reality right now. There are weeks when I don't leave the house at all; the furthest I venture is the garden, always within earshot in case I'm needed, never able to lose myself in music or television. As my boys have grown, my mum is less able to help for extended periods, and my husband struggles to manage alone for long - which has steadily chipped away at what little time to myself I ever had. The last six months have been especially brutal. My younger son's difficulties came to a head following problems at school, leaving him unable to attend and needing intensive support. On top of caring for my older son and carving out what time I could for my daughter, I was simultaneously working part-time, managing the household and navigating dozens of forms and hurdles to secure the help my younger son needed. Living in permanent firefighting mode — stretched financially, running on five or six hours of broken sleep has taken a real toll on me, physically and mentally. Getting even one night away requires such careful coordination that my exhausted mind had started convincing me I was being selfish for wanting it. But my rested mind knows that isn't true. That night away was a lifeline — a crack of light after a very dark stretch - that gave me not just rest and precious time with my daughter but something I hadn't felt in a while: hope. The hotel itself is lovely; clean, stylish, comfortable and full of life. But it's the staff who truly make it shine. Every single person we encountered was wonderful - warm, kind, attentive and efficient - from the receptionist who checked us in to the waiter who served our dinner. Nothing was too much trouble, even with the place busily buzzing around us. We had the most wonderful time, and seeing my daughter's beaming smile was worth everything. Thank you so much for giving us this gift. A single night may sound small, but the happiness it brought my daughter and me continues long after we checked out.

I had a lovely break with another family member. I chose a hotel with a swimming pool, jacuzzi, etc., and went for a swim on each of the days. The breakfast was lovely. I get very little respite at home. Our youngest son doesn’t cope very well and is ill himself (with an unrelated illness), so he avoids contact with his mum. Our eldest son is loving, caring and helpful, but is self-employed and works long hours. This first break came at a time when I was really down and quite despairing.

Thank you very much for this fantastic experience. We were using the swimming pool and enjoyed the hotel breakfast, we did not even go around the city, just relaxed and stayed in peace. My family circumstances are a bit hectic at home due to my mother's disability with mental health and social isolation, plus my teen daughter has clinical depression. I also experienced a miscarriage, and it affected my well-being and physical health. The possibility of just escaping from home for a day gives a huge restart and energy to carry out responsibilities.
